One of the snags about starting a business is that however you do it, you have to consume money first, then get it back later.
Right now, my business is at the point where I have been working for a few months now, and have done long hours, but the total income received so far is slightly less than I would have had working for my previous employer. And the money owed me is twice that amount.
So, it is frustrating. I have things to buy, power-spending in clothing stores to do, as well as giving Hubby the chance to get goodies like new tires for my Jeep etc.
Now, notice that? - I get the clothes, and I get the new tires. On the other hand, I have had the work to do!
But Hubby was intending building a small sailing dinghy this summer, and the summer has nearly gone, so he will have to wait for next year. By that time I may have enough to just buy him one. But, knowing him, he will prefer to build one. Guys are like that. At least he is. It is worrying, I prefer to trust one made by someone else - after all, Hubby can't even fix a bath-tap without it leaking, what will he do with a boat?

My Hubby is very old-fashioned in how he does things. They say that as we get older we get more resistant to changes, but at the same time he occasionally will astound me by wanting to do a major thing in life that is really bizarre. Now, for instance, I will grab the calculator and punch in the figures before he has had time to even figure out where the calculator is, and it is the same with the calendar.
He insists upon having a paper calender so he can list things in it so as not to forget them. Not just any calendar, he has to have one with a good space for each day, so he can do his writing in there. I irritate him sometimes as I write something in, and he cannot read what it is, and tells me that the purpose of writing is to communicate, and so bad writing is useless writing. I just smile and tell him that I can read it, and that is all that matters.

Now here is a tip for those of you wanting to use a custom calendar as a medium for advertising your business. Get the calendar out nice and early, so it will be the one that is used rather than passed on, or even worse, lost into a drawer somewhere. Once the user has placed a reminder in a date for sometime in the coming year, they are really committed to having your business looking at them every day they are at work.
Nothing like a blizzard on a hot day here! We roam down the city one day and stopped at a nearby public garden to relax and cool off under trees and have ourselves ice creams and blizzards. Arvin sure enjoyed the treat:)

Chocolate - An Addiction, Or Pleasure?
I have often wondered what the big attraction is that some people have for chocolate. My hubby can eat bar after bar of the stuff, and never really seems to tire of it, although occasionally he will complain of feeling too full of chocolate to eat any more!
I lie it as a little treat just once in a while, not all the time. I also like to vary it, sometimes having dark chocolate, and at other times milk.
But hubby is funny when he has chocolate - after he has eaten some, he sits back, and reminds me of one of those fat house cats that has just had a saucer of cream!

A good table can be a focal point of the room where it is located.
Especially if you have a contemporary dining table that looks unique in design. Actually, dining tables in general are not striking enough in appearance to really form the main room feature, but by careful selection of a particular design, it is possible for a homeowner or interior designer to really work wonders with a room once the table has been decided upon. Chairs on the other hand are less important from a decor point of view, but obviously must fit in with the table selected, as must the rest of the room.

Durable, or disposable?
These days, with everyone having computers, there is a new room name, I suppose though it might have just taken over from what used to be called the study. It is called the home office. It might actually be a sad reflection on life that we have a working type room right in the home. But with it comes the availability of home office desks that are made a bit more suitable for home use than executive office furniture but at the same time can still be of high quality. I personally prefer to avoid the cheaper furniture of any kind, as the durability tends to be poor. On the other hand, it can be low enough in cost to be almost disposable in nature.

Spreading The Cost Of Furniture.
Bathroom furniture tends to stay around in your house for longer because of it being involved with plumbing, and so a little more inconvenient to replace. But in the end, it will drive you crazy not to have it at the same standard as the rest of your house. The way to get started on this as a project is to get the non-plumbed items such as bathroom vanity cabinets and bathroom storage furniture changed first, while at the same time maybe buying the plumbed items. Then have the plumbing in done later as a separate expense, to spread the cost a little.

Heavy Rain Today.
I was just about to set off for work, and the heavens opened up.
I don't like driving when the rain is this heavy, because I prefer to be cautious, and other drivers (who are either braver or more stupid) tend to get annoyed.
The visibility was way down, and I expected the thunder to start at any time, but it didn't.
I guess I will wait a few minutes, it will soon clear, or maybe we will all get washed away!

Acne Can Be A Drag
As we get older, we tend to dismiss acne as being unimportant, but with teenagers, it is far from that. The way kids make fun of each other, it is better not to stand out in the crowd. The same applies to clothing. Better to have at least one item once in a while that is trendy enough to allow the child to be one of the 'in' crowd. But with acne it is not just a school-day social problem, it is better to avoid getting acne scars, as well, so a good treatment is the way to go.

Exercising - A Great way to Stay Healthy.
I know that it seems crazy, especially in summer, or if you live where the weather is always fairly good, to think of treadmills, but the reality is actually different. By using a treadmill instead of just jogging, or walking, you are able to properly monitor your mileage, and as well as that, there is the convenience of not having to get dressed up, or down for that matter, in order to go out into the world. You can just fit in your exercise when convenient to you.

Another Week Already, But The Weekend Was Good
I had a whole load of fun this weekend. Instead of spending my time catching up on housework, I did a quick flick around, and then on Sunday we spent the day at the beach.
It was a whole load of fun as we picked up a snorkel and goggles first, and then my son Arvin spent the day with his head down in the water catching shrimp by hand. Quite a feat.
Funny things, shrimp. You can't really see them from above, by looking at the water, but once you have goggles and can look under the water, they are easy to see as soon as they move. There were some crab there, too. Or should that be crabs?

At Last - The Hornets Nest Has Gone!
My hubby noticed a hornets nest right beside where the clothes line pulley attaches to the house. That was maybe a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, he sprayed it at night a few times, and it made little difference - every time I use the clothes line, out they come to bother me.
But, for some reason (Hubby hasn't done any more spraying this week) they seem to have disappeared, maybe just moved to a less toxic place maybe. Good that they are no longer around - last year we had a hidden nest under the deck right by the back door. Seems that because it is an old house, there may be gaps that they can get through to build the nests up in the roof space, or inside the walls, maybe. Good Riddance!

A Hard Life For Kids? Not Here!
My son Arvin is of course on summer break from school right now. He saw an ad on TV for 'going back to school' stuff, and was immediately protesting that he has not had long enough of a break. So, his dad reminded him that the vacation is not over yet, and that it is the ad people who are stupid in their timing of the ad, as he has over a month still to go.
Funny how he came from a society (Philippines)where lots of kids have nothing, and might be happier than those over here in Canada who have more.
But he still thinks life is hard, and it is a tragedy for him when something like his computer mouse wears out from time to time. Maybe we spoil them too much? I think so.

A break..
I have a couple of hours to relax until my next job. The good thing about running your own business is, you can take a break anytime. So here I am, decided to take a couple of hours break. Some More About A Franchise
To add to what I mentioned previously, a franchise can save you a lot of the work in obtaining customers, and other parts of running a business, and can certainly make the time taken from starting up until the business makes money a lot shorter.
There are drawbacks, of course, and one is that you might have to take on work that you would generally prefer not to do. I am in that very situation now, and have actually just taken a job for a few weeks to help out the head office guy, so he doesn't lose the work while getting others to see if they want to take it on. Just thought I would mention a small snag, to add to the good stuff! Of course it will depend on the nature of the business as to whether this situation applies.

Well, most people I know agree that to be financially stable, you have to be in some sort of a business. I had kept that in mind and that`s why I bought a new franchise. The good thing about a franchise is that you don`t have to come up with a product or sometimes even ads. Everything is, most of the time, done for you. All you need to put up is your time and your start money. This is a good set up for those who want to get into a business venture but actually don`t know how or what kind. There are a lot of places you can get franchise information from. You just have to have the determination to own your own business and I am pretty sure that there is one that would suit you.

Are you a smooth sailor?
I have been driving in the city everyday for a few months now and I do admit that people here are crazy! I am not sure what the hurry is all about but their patience here is very, very short or nothing at all. You could get `beep`on when you don;t move after seconds of the light turning green.I am trying to be a smooth sailor here to save fuel. I have read somewhere that `jackrabbit` driving (hard accelerations and hard braking)increase fuel consumption by 37% and would raise emissions by up to five times--but they only cut travel time by 2.5 minutes per hour! So learn to be a `road surfer` and take your foot off the gas before you have to slam on the brakes.

Recliners and Ergonomic Chairs
Chairs are great for general use, as right now I have to find a way to stop hubby falling asleep on the sofa while watching tv. Now, the question is, do I risk getting new recliner chairs, or should I get something with a more upright posture.
I do know one thing for sure - I have to get one of those great ergonomic chairs for use when sitting at the computer. Once again, right now we have an old thing that really should be thrown out - it was cheap when we got it, and has been uncomfortable for a while now. I guess that you get what you pay for.

Dining Room Furniture
It will be interesting to see if we soon have enough money to build a small or maybe medium sized extension onto the house. We have the choice to make, do we build an extension, or just sell and get a bigger house, but either way, we hope to have room for a proper dining room set that is the full issue - 6 contemporary dining chairs included. Time will tell.

More ideas about the dining room.
When we get the room, as I mentioned before, it will be great to add a dining room set to out house, especially if we have dining room leather chairs, as I think that leather adds a touch of quality that only leather can. Maybe it is the smell of the leather tanning process. I shouldn't be greedy really, as right now, any dining chairs would be better than what we have, but I figure if we are going to the trouble of adding furniture, it might as well be exactly what we want.

.......at least I do have an advantage with my work right now, as I am able to move around the city from job to job, and take in the air conditioning in the car while traveling. Now, it looks like it is beginning to fail a bit, blowing a bit warmer than it should, so I guess that will be another bill.
Maybe I should open the windows and just get used to it, and save the money, but I know that hubby will whine a lot about it when he finds out, he just hates humidity when in a vehicle.

Weather Cooled Off This Week.
It is great for me that the weather here appears to have cooled off a bit. Last week, it was hot and humid, and today it is raining, and cooler. Not like when it rained last week, and the heat was still there.
I think that I have really got used to the cooler weather in Canada since I came from the Philippines - I think that when I go back for a visit, it might be a bit unbearable for me.

Nothing like a blizzard on a hot day here! We roam down the city one day and stopped at a nearby public garden to relax and cool off under trees and have ourselves ice creams and blizzards. Arvin sure enjoyed the treat:)

Pork Spare Ribs, Hmmmm, Yummy.
When I arrived home I found that Hubby had been shopping, and had a great chunk of pork spare ribs in the fridge, so right now, even as I type this, the smell of them roasting away is drifting through the house.

It's Great To Be Home!
Extra work had to be done this weekend, and I allowed a day, giving me Sunday off, but guess what? - Yes, it took 2 days.
One of the snags in having a business is that they are generally run in a way that does not allow extra to be charged if snags are met - unless you run an automotive repair business, and then whatever you do, or even break through you or your own employees incompetence can be charged to the customer, as they have no way of checking. You just have to lie a lot, that's all.
But I can't do that - the prices are fixed.
So, I have to 'eat' the extra expenses in this case.
Anyway, good to be home, even if it did take longer to get here than expected.

Hubby's Work Is Never Done!
My Hubby just replaced the faucets on the bathtub, which involved tearing out the wall behind the faucets to gain access. What a mess. But, there is a good side, as the faucets are bigger, so he has to rebuild a wall, and so I was thinking that he can take a look at bathroom vanity cabinets and bathroom sinks and make it a complete remodeling. The sink needs updating anyway, so now might be a great time to look into it.

Dining Room Tables, Large and Small
I was in a friends house the other day, and, as my hubby from England says "They are not short of a bob or two" - meaning that my friend has lots of money, (and lives a lifestyle to suit!). Anyway, they have a room there that is designed for gatherings, and so they looked into conference room tables when they chose the table. It is huge. Has lots of seats around it. As for me, I will just look into regular dining room tables when I get around to remodeling the dining area in my house.

Kitchen Furniture Online
My Hubby's next project just HAS to be the kitchen floor. We bought some great stone effect floor tiles a while ago, and once they are down, the room will take on a different look and feel. Then I can look into getting new kitchen furniture, or at the very least look at kitchen tables. No point in ruining the look just for the sake of making the effort to choose something new.

Will I Miss The Summer?
Maybe I will miss the summer, which is a bit of a shame. I am working to many hours right now, well, not too many hours, but the hours I work are spaced out so I have no real time to do anything other than grab a quick sleep before starting the next job, as some jobs I do are done during the early morning hours.
Once my sister can drive, then things will get easier, as then we can share the driving chores for everyone. She is just a few lessons away from getting her driving license, I hope that she passes first try.

Hot Day For Work!
It was really hot today, I had an extra job to do, which will take two days, I think, today, and tomorrow, and it was a bit of a nightmare.
Since coming from the Philippines, I have got used to the cooler climate in Canada, but it does get hot here in summer, and it seems that is where we are right now, summer.

Lasik Corrective Eyesight Procedure
I hope that my eyesight never fails me, but as we get older, it seems to change a bit. We have by now all heard of Lasik eye procedures, but something that I wasn't aware of was that when they are working on the eye, the machine has a tracking system that allows the laser to follow where it should be irrespective of eye movements. So, it is far less of a risk than I had ever imagined. And of course, it is getting so that it is 'old' technology now, with all the procedures that have been undertaken since it came out. Suddenly it becomes an option for me, when and if needed.

Thank you 4th of July!
My work was cut short today because of the US holiday. So I can't complain about that. I was able to relax a couple of hours earlier than normal. I was chatting with hubby on ym for a while and then able to watch a movie on tv. Now, I am about to go to bed but just thought I would check my email again and see what's new. Here I am again, blogging a little before crushing to bed. I really don't have a lot of time now to blog except when I have my laptop with me and have some few minutes to spare. Being Careful With Decor
As my house is an older type, but not old enough to be classic in any way, I have to be careful how I set it up as far as decor and room colors go. It is also fairly small, which adds more limitations, but hopefully will save on heating bills this coming winter!

Bedroom Furniture Assists Relaxation
My Hubby might well have the opinion that there is no point in having a bedroom that looks good, as most of the time it is dark, and the lights are off, and we are sleeping anyway! But the reality is different of course. It is about feeling good.
